A 31-year-old masked robber tied up a shop worker when he raided store in the village where he lives, a court has heard.

Daniel Green, of Tynefield Mews, Etwall, pleaded guilty to being responsible for a robbery at the One Stop shop when he appeared via video link at Derby Crown Court.

The incident saw him storm the Main Street shop at 8.30pm on September 27 last year. Wearing a blue poncho, he was captured on CCTV stuffing cigarettes and alcohol into a white sheet before fleeing.

The robbery happened at One Stop in Etwall

A woman in her 20s, who works at the store, was tied up with cable ties around her wrists and ankles during the incident.

Green, who lives just half a mile from the scene of the robbery, was flanked by an officer from HMP Nottingham when he entered his guilty plea to the charge.

However his cousin, 29-year-old Scott Green, of Friar Gate Court, Derby, pleaded not guilty to the same offence.

Judge Jonathan Bennett adjourned the hearing for trial at Derby Crown Court.

It is scheduled to begin on July 9 and is estimated to last three days.

Judge Bennett remanded both men in custody and told Daniel Green he would not sentence him until the conclusion of his cousin's trial.

Speaking at the time of the robbery, Etwall resident David Hollingworth, 73, said he heard a woman shouting "help me, I've been robbed" as he walked out of Steve's Fish Bar next door to the store at just after 9pm on the day of the crime.

He said: "It was really dark and raining so I couldn't actually see the young woman, but I heard her calling for help.

"I found her standing with three cable ties around her ankles and two around her wrists - she was very distressed. She had been left out in the rain for 10 to 15 minutes and was soaked.

"I found some scissors behind the counter and cut her free making sure I didn't touch anything because I didn't want to spread my fingerprints all over a crime scene."

Mr Hollingworth, who runs Hollingworth and Sons Dairy, added: "The police then arrived within minutes and took over the situation.

"From speaking to the woman it sounds like she was getting ready to close the shop and was taking something outside when the incident happened.

"My granddaughter is the manageress at the shop and my grandson's pregnant girlfriend also works there. I just think it could very easily have been them and that's very uncomforting."
