Firefighters were called to a blaze in a derelict building in Swadlincote.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews from Swadlincote and Burton were called to Newhall Road at 4.53pm yesterday, Monday, July 31, to reports of a fire which was spotted in the first floor of an abandoned building.

They received the call from police officers who reported seeing the smoke which was coming from the building. Firefighters had to get into the derelict building by using a ladder to get to the first floor and put out the flames.

The firefighters were on the scene for around 30 minutes dealing with the fire and the service said they had left the site by 5.33pm.
