This footage shows the extent of the damage caused by a fire to a lorry on a major road this morning. Drivers heading on the A38 are experiencing delays in Derbyshire due to the lorry fire today, Tuesday, September 12.

The fire is causing delays on the A38 northbound between A5111 Kingsway at Kingsway Island and A52 Ashbourne Road at Markeaton Island, which drivers reporting tailbacks to around Findern. One lane has been closed of two.

The road was closed initially but one lane was reopened at around 5.45am. The road surface has been damaged so may need repair work to take place before lane can be reopened, according to traffic and travel website Inrix.

Travel time is predicted to be around 45 minutes extra to a journey.

Motorist Julie Crouch said: "The traffic really is queuing back and I saw police on scene taking the trailer away. I hope everybody is alright. It will mean that many people will be very late for work this morning."
