Ladies from across Burton and South Derbyshire flooded to Uttoxeter Racecourse on Friday, July 28 for an afternoon of fun, music and of course, horseracing.
The annual Ladies Day is held at the racecourse on Wood Lane in the Staffordshire town and is known as one of the leading events on the county’s sports and social calendar.
Sophie Ellis-Bextor took to centre stage alongside her husband, Richard Jones from West Sussex rock band, The Feeling to play a highly anticipated DJ set towards the end to the day's events that kicked off at midday.
Strictly Come Dancing contestant, Sophie Ellis-Bextor shot to fame in 2000 when her collaboration with Italian DJ Spiller beat Victoria Beckham to number one of the UK charts with ‘Groovejet’.
Groups of ‘gals and their pals’ were given the perfect excuse to get glammed up and go out for a night like no other.
They danced into the evening to music from Richard Jones and Sophie Ellis-Bextor, under their set name – Me and Mrs Jones.
It was not all relaxation though, as the attendees had to dress to impress with awards being handed out for best dressed lady and the best hat.
There was plenty of bubbly being passed around and the ladies enjoyed their choice of a fine three course meal or a slightly more modest afternoon tea buffet selection.
The afternoon was not all about dancing the day away with their friends however, as a set of seven races were held from 2pm to get punters cheering for their chosen horse and jockey.
The event follows on from earlier performances at the racecourse this year, including the Kaiser Chiefs at the Live Music Raceday in May.
