Our final batch of pictures taken from our feature about Marchington way back in 1972 are a real blast from the past.
While many of the images we have shown in the last few weeks have demonstrated how some things have not changed much in the village, quite the opposite is true of these pictures.
Last week, we showed St Peter’s Church, in Church Lane; Woodland Views and the old thatched cottage in Birch Cross, just outside the main village.
All three looked much the same as they do today, by and large. But this week we have some nostalgic images that are sure to jog a few memories.
The class room at St Peter’s First School back in 1972, pictured at the top of the article, looks like an old school should – with pupils sat on rigid wooden chairs on individual desks.
Their uniform is dark-coloured and the teacher is sharply dressed in his suit and tie.
Can any readers remember who this smart-looking educationalist was?
Our shot of the Bulls Head shows that it was a Marston’s pub even back then. Nowadays, it has rebranded livery on the side, but not a great deal has changed when you look at the pub from the outside.
The old-school car parked outside, in the space many locals describe as the “executive parking space”, is a real giveaway of the time this picture was shot.
Do you have any fond memories or old pictures of The Bull, in Bag Lane?
Then we have two ladies wrapped up warm outside a conservatory. Who can identify the pair and where they have been pictured?
The four ladies in the old village shop provide an intriguing image. It looks like the old village store on the main road running through the village, next to the tennis courts.
Can anyone tell us who these ladies are and provide any pictures or memories from the old shop, which is now someone’s house?
Finally, we have a very well-to-do-looking couple in a living room, with the man in a tweed jacket and the lady sitting on a chair.
Again, we would love to hear from anyone who can tell us who these two are.
