Police have tonight confirmed that there is an ongoing incident on the A38 between Branston and Clay Mills.

Officers say they cannot give out more details at this stage. An air ambulance has been seen flying over Horninglow, although it not yet been confirmed that the two incidents are connected.

Highways England has said that the dual carriageway is closed near the A5121 in both directions due to a collision. News is coming through of motorists stuck on the northbound side for an hour.

Nearby residents have reported that the helicopter was hovering and circling in the area before it was seen landing. It later took off. This picture was taken and posted on Twitter by @katiepepperell, who said: "Just watched a helicopter take off from behind the bushes on the A38 right near my house. It's not looking good."

Carol Parsons said on Twitter that two more police cars had just arrived on the A38.

Tweets from people in the area claim that traffic is at a standstill in both directions.
