A kitten has been found tied up in parcel tape and cable ties in a shocking incident in Derbyshire.

The cat was intended to be used as bait for the abusers' dogs and ferrets after it was found with its feet bound with ties, according to Derbyshire Police.

Now police want to hear from anyone with information.

The tiny kitten is now living with a new owner who found the animal and is caring for her, according to our sister title, the Derby Telegraph.

Four or five males responsible for the abuse have been described as wearing tracksuits and in their early 20s or 30s by police.

One has a swallow tattoo on his neck and the others all have tattoos on their hands.

The incident occurred in Woodlands between Unstone Green, Chesterfield, and the A61 at Sheepbridge Industrial estate.

The kitten was saved by a concerned passing member of the public and is now safe and well.

Its new owners said that they are going to be keeping her and that she has "really come out of her shell" since the incident.

Anyone with information relating to the incident is urged to call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, quoting incident number 326-200518.
