A cyclist has been airlifted to hospital after a collision with a tractor towing a trailer in Marchington.

The man, believed to be in his 60s needed trauma care after becoming trapped beneath the trailer on the back of the tractor this afternoon in the East Staffordshire town.

Marchington Cliff was closed in both directions between Forest Road and B5017 Stubby Lane, where the accident happened, just down from Marchington Industrial Estate.

A spokesman from West Midlands Ambulance Service has said the man appeared to have suffered multiple serious injuries.

They said: ““The cyclist, a man believed to be in his 60s, had to be released from beneath the trailer by the fire service. The team of ambulance staff worked quickly to do a top to toe assessment on the man who was found with multiple serious injuries.

“The man received treatment on scene, which included advanced pain relief and oxygen therapy. Ambulance staff carefully immobilised the man to help stabilise his injuries before he was airlifted to Royal Stoke University Hospital for further trauma care.”

This happened shortly between 1pm today, Friday, June 21 and a paramedic and Midlands Air Ambulance from Tatenhill and Cosford attended with a trauma doctor on board.
