Hundreds of music lovers flocked to a popular festival in Overseal to see local bands perform while soaking up the sun.

Kicking off the show was Daisy Rose Portman who performed some hits by pop idol Ariana Grande.

The young singer was at the Ariana Grande concert last year when a bomb exploded in the arena, killing 22 people. Daisy took to the stage to offer her own touching tribute to those who died or were injured.

She performed No More Tears Left to Cry and One Last Time, which became a emblematic tune following the tragedy, in front of hundreds of festivalgoers.

She said: "It went so well. I feel so much better now I have done my bit for Manchester.

"I had lots of people come up after to say how brave I was. They even said there wasn't a dry eye out there. The community of Overseal is amazing. They treat everyone as family with lots of love and respect."

Daisy received a lot of praise for her performance and visitors gushed at her impressive performance.

Among those singing her praises, alongside all the other acts, was chairman of the Overseal Gala Committee Mandy Elton.

The 54-year-old, who has lived in the village for most of her life, said: "It went very well. It is very much a village taken to keep the community spirit alive.

"One of our mottos for the event and for the village as a whole is to say hello to someone you haven't said hello to before. It's our way of everybody making friends and helping the community to grow.

"My favourite part of the festival is always seeing all the village coming together and having a good day in each other's company.

"We have got a really dedicated gala committee. Everyone does a wonderful job in helping or organise these events that continue to be extremely popular in our community."

Derby band Vantage Point, have been performing together since they were seven years old

The Overseal Overload festival is a free event organised by the Overseal Gala Committee. It started in 2011 but only became a music festival in 2014.

Around 400 people turned out to the Overseal recreational ground on Saturday afternoon between 1pm and 10pm to catch some of the live music provided by local acts including Gear Jammer, Shanks Pony, What Da Funk and Derby band, Vantage Point.

The committee is now hard at work with preparations for the annual Overseal Gala and parade.

It gala will take place on Saturday, July 14, with the parade kicking off at 1pm and featuring floats created by local businesses and community groups.

Guests will then make their way to the recreational ground, where the gala will be officially opened by Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner Hardyal Dhindsa.

There will then be entertainment throughout the day with music from the marching band, dancing groups and displays from local teams and clubs.
