Several sets of new roadworks are scheduled to start next week in Burton and Swadlincote - and highways chiefs have warned motorists to plan ahead.

Traffic lights will be in place in Burton as a new pedestrian crossing is installed.

Staffordshire County Council will be working on the B5017 Henhurst Hill from Monday, June 11, to June 22 to install the new crossing, with two-way lights in place while the work is carried out.

Cadent will be carrying out work in St Peter's Street, Stapenhill, on Sunday, June 17, the day before major works starts on Burton Bridge.

This is for essential work in the road to connect properties to the gas network.

Temporary traffic lights are springing up across Burton

Derby Street, Burton, will have traffic lights throughout next week while Severn Trent Water carries out work at various locations, including at the junction with Albert Street.

There will be traffic lights in place on June 10 and 15, while the work is completed.

Western Power Distribution will also be carrying out work in nearby Forest Road until June 11 to provide a new supply. Two-way lights will be in place while the work is completed.

The power company will also be in Grangewood from June 13 to 19, and William Nadin Way, both in Swadlincote, from June 12 to 19, to carry out work and traffic lights will again be in place.

In Bitham Lane, Stretton, South Staffordshire Water will be repairing a leakage on the water main from June 10 to 13 with traffic lights in place.

Water workers will also be in Coton Road, Walton, from June 11 to 13, to repair and renew a service pipe.

In Dunstall Lane, Barton under Needwood, the water company will be working from the junction of Scotch Hills Lane to the Barn Store. Multi-way traffic lights will be in place while this work is carried out.

Cadent is carrying out essential gas maintenance in Sycamore Road, Stapenhill, to replace old iron gas mains with more durable plastic pipes.

Bosses said that this is to ensure they continue to provide safe and reliable gas supplies to local businesses and residents.

They will be working on the road until July 6.

Drivers are also reminded of road closures around a number of villages this Sunday, June 10, for the Ironman 2018. This will include in Yoxall, Newborough, Marchington and Abbots Bromley.
