Bosses at a pub in South Derbyshire where the kitchen was badly damaged in a fire have said it might not be serving food until November or December while repairs take place.

A fire broke out outside the Wheel Inn, Midway, during the evening on Thursday, August 31.

The fire started in a wheelie bin outside the venue, but spread to the kitchen causing extensive damage. The pub itself is open for business as usual.

The landlord and landlady have had to close the kitchen until repairs are completed. They say the kitchen could remain closed until the end of the year, depending on how long it takes to fix the extensive damage. But they hope it will be sooner.

Landlord Paul Marriott said: "We're hoping we can re-open the kitchen earlier, but we have to make sure that it is all safe before we do so. Our customers have been very understanding, and we're really grateful for that."

Fire crews from Swadlincote and Burton were on the scene of a fire at the Wheel Inn

An eye witness who saw the fire said there was smoke pouring from the top of the pub, as firefighters were on the roof fighting the fire.

Nobody was injured in the fire, which broke out at 11.40pm after the pub had closed.
