A housing developer has made a generous donation in memory of a Uttoxeter baby who tragically died from meningitis aged just six weeks.

Russ Fisher applied to Persimmon Homes' "community champions" scheme to bolster his family's campaign to raise funds for charity Meningitis Now in little Rubie Fisher's memory.

The scheme provides grants to worthy causes each month, match-funding any cash fund-raisers have pulled together.

And Russ was thankful to receive £250 from the development firm.

He said: "Rubie was just six weeks old when bacterial meningitis stole her short life in just five hours in May 2015.

"She had no rash and no typical symptoms, which reminds us that meningitis is a cruel and devastating disease that can affect anyone, at any time.

"We are currently organising our third raffle in memory of her, with all proceeds going to Meningitis Now.

"It will be drawn on July 1 and tickets are on sale now. We are very grateful to Persimmon Homes for their support."

Stephen Cleveley, director-in-charge of Persimmon Homes West Midlands, said: "It is heartbreaking to hear the story of Rubie Jane and commendable that her parents continue to support Meningitis Now by fund-raising in this way.

"If people were unsuccessful in their Community Champions application, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next recipient."
