Travellers jetting off from East Midlands Airport have been hit by strikes today.

Action by French air traffic controllers has seen flights cancelled.

The strike started at 6pm on Monday, May 21, and is set to run until 5am tomorrow, Wednesday, May 23.

Four flights from the airport, located at Castle Donington have been impacted today, including the 9.35am flight to Barcelona's El Prat Airport, ran by Ryanair.

Also cancelled was the 12.25pm flight to Dinard-Pleurtuit-Saint-Malo Airport, in France, the 1.25pm flight to Limoges-Bellegarde Airport in France, and the 5.10pm flight to Palma de Mallorca Airport.

This is the latest round of industrial action in a long-running dispute between the French air traffic controllers and their government, according to our sister title Bristol Live.

Their main complaints are around pay, staffing levels and retirement conditions.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Ryanair said the strikes were "yet another unjustified French ATC strike" which has "resulted in all major airlines in Europe cancelling flights".
