Uxonians, the people of Uttoxeter, are fiercely proud of a rich history that punches well above the town's weight.

Obviously, we have JCB, which is the jewel in our commercial crown and started in a small lock-up garage in 1945, going on to become one of the biggest construction machinery firms in the world.

Athletically, Olympic champion Adam Peaty grew up here and former Premier League footballer Gary Croft has strong family links with Uttoxeter.

Then there's the artistic side of the town - Shane Meadows is the current king of UK film and TV and is a truly wonderful director.

Peter Vaughan, most recently known for his role in Game of Thrones, also went to school here and now we have Anna Passey, a star of Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks.

Going further back, great literary figures including George Eliot, Mary Howitt and Dr Samuel Johnson have associations with the town and its surrounding villages.
