A visitor centre at a South Derbyshire beauty spot did not contaminate a nearby reservoir despite concerns over its leaking septic tank, the Burton Mail has been told.

A visitor to the Foremark Reservoir visitor centre, run by Severn Trent, said the septic tank from the café on site was overflowing into the reservoir.

The visitor, who wished to remain anonymous, raised concerns that the reservoir was being polluted.

However, a spokesman for Severn Trent said the leak had been found quickly and the issue resolved before any problem arose.

He said: "We were made aware that a septic thank was leaking at the visitor centre at Foremark Reservoir. At no point was the reservoir contaminated and the issue was quickly resolved by the team on the site."

The reservoir was built in the early 1970s to support Leicester’s water demand. The reservoir acts as a huge storage tank and water is pumped in and out when needed.

The visitor centre was built at the site in 1997.
