It's time to batten down the hatches in Burton, Swadlincote and Uttoxeter with the area set to be hit by gale-force winds as forecasters warn of six more storms coming our way before Christmas.

Storm Aileen may now be a distant memory after winds reached 83mph in some parts of the country, leaving homes without power, but this was not the end of severe weather this year.

At the moment we are experiencing a mixture of sunshine and rain, but according to AccuWeather it is set to be a particularly bad autumn, with gales and downpours heading our way.

It has warned in its three-month autumn forecast to expect "one of the stormiest parts of the year" ahead.

The Met Office, which is responsible for naming UK storms, confirmed there is a stormy autumn ahead but has not issued a prediction as to the number of named storms.

The next six storms to hit the UK have been named as Brian, Caroline, Dylan, Eleanor, Fionn and Georgina.

Three named storms hit before Christmas last year and five hit by December 25 in 2015, the first year that UK storms were given names.
