Motorists are being warned to avoid the A50 on the westbound side at Uttoxeter as there has been a serious crash involving two vans at around 10am this morning, Thursday, August 31.

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed that a lorry has overturned in a very serious incident. A Midlands Air Ambulance from Staffordshire was called to the scene as well as an ambulance, rapid response vehicle and a paramedic officer.

A spokesman from the service said: "We were called at 10am to what appears to be a very serious incident.

"A lorry has overturned. Our paramedics are on the scene and treating one patient, although details of any injuries have not been confirmed."

Staffordshire Police confirmed on Twitter that they are at the scene of a serious road traffic collision. The tweet also said that the road is expected to be closed for some time.

The incident is believed to have happened on a stretch of the road outside the JCB World Parts Centre.

Both lanes of the road have been closed as a result of the incident and traffic is queuing on the A50 up to B5030 Ashbourne Road on the Little Chef roundabout.

Officers from Staffordshire Police's Collision Investigation Unit are at the scene and will be investigating the circumstances.
