A 10-year-old from Swadlincote is hoping to become a new stitching prodigy, and raise money for charity at the same time.

When Hollie Patrick was nine, she was forced to give up her dancing dream due to problems with her feet. She started classes at Simply Needlecraft Haberdashery and Sewing Studio, in High Street, caught the sewing bug and now creates cushions, bags, hair bows and much more.

When Hollie was given a sewing machine she began making items to raise money for charity, originally opting for Treetops Hospice Care who cared for her granddad. This year Hollie has chosen to support Rainbows Children's Hospice and sells her goods via Facebook, her own website and at various markets around the area.

She said: “The work carried out by Rainbows is great and I want to do anything I can do help the children and their families who go to Rainbows.”

The hospice works to support children with life-limiting conditions and their families and provide them with happy memories together.

Ali Furlong, Derbyshire fund-raiser at Rainbows said: “I would like to thank Hollie for supporting Rainbows. She is doing a wonderful thing raising funds to help children and young people with life-limited illnesses and their families.

“Without the support of people like Hollie, we wouldn’t be able to open our doors and make a difference to so many lives.”
