Take me out to the ball game, take me out to ‘Swad’, as plans are announced for a baseball camp this summer at Pingle Academy with 20 coaches travelling all the way from Houston, USA.

Children from the Swadlincote area are being invited to take part in the week long American-themed camp running from Sunday, July 30 until Saturday, August 5, with Wednesday as a day off.

The event has been organised by Hill Street Baptist Church, who have partnered up with Swadlincote and District Youth and reverend Simon Thompsett explained that they are: “Partnering up with a team from Texas to put this on.

“We will teach the children and young people how to bat, field, explain the rules of baseball and have team time where we explore the Christian faith in a fun and relevant way.”

A team of 20 coaches from Houston will be making the nearly 5000 miles trip to show the schoolchildren of Swadlincote how to play the classic American game.

At the end of the week, there will be a final tournament day held on the Saturday, where families are welcomed to come and watch what their child has learned.

The whole camp is being split into two halves, with current year three to year six students being welcomed to the morning, and year seven and older in the afternoon.

The cost of the six day event is £20 per child and with that you will receive an official t-shirt and cap, the full camp of coaching, team building games and the use of bats, gloves and other equipment.
