A police campaign to crack down on burglary and robbery crimes in South Derbyshire and across the county has seen crooks jailed for a total of more than 40 year.
Operation Vigilance has been running since February and is aimed at stopping such offences in Derby, South Derbyshire and Erewash.
Notable sentences include six years for a woman who carried out a spate of burglaries in South Derbyshire in February and March, two years for a robber who struck his victim with a metal bar during the offence in Alvaston, Derby, and six years for a woman who targeted elderly people in sheltered accommodation across Derby.
Last week, Liam Barradell was jailed for 30 months for assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.
The 28-year-old broke into a house in Tintagel Close, in Alvaston, and badly assaulted a man who was asleep inside.
Due to the incident initially being reported as a burglary, Operation Vigilance officers led the investigation and Barradell, of London Road, Derby, was jailed on Friday, July 7.
Another six-year sentence was handed to a man who bit a chunk off a woman’s ear during a robbery in Traffic Street, Derby, in May.
This sentence puts the total jail terms reached since the inception of the Vigilance team to 40 years and three months, from 15 convictions.
Sergeant Steve Bruce, from Operation Vigilance, said: “The unit was set up to focus the investigation of burglaries and robberies across the area, and we are already gaining results just a few months after the campaign began.
“Burglaries and robberies can have severe and lasting effects on the confidence and wellbeing of the victims, and we always strive to get justice for those people.
“Reaching 40 years in custodial sentences is a good milestone for us to reach but we are far from complacent.
“We will continue to bring offenders to justice and help protect people from crime, and hopefully pass more and more of these milestones along the way.”
