Motorists in East Staffordshire were hit with delays after a tractor overturned, reportedly spilling hay all over the road earlier this afternoon.

Slow traffic was reported on the A515 near Meadow Lane after a tractor was involved in an accident, which happened at around 2.20pm, according to traffic and travel information website, Inrix.

Motorists were being diverted away from the area.

It is currently not known if anyone has been injured in the incident.

Joanna Cannon was stuck in traffic while on her way to Tamworth railway station.

She said: "It was just an endless line of traffic. I tried the side roads but they were gridlocked - they are not designed for high volume and people were getting stuck on single track roads."

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on the A515 Yoxall Bridge at around 2.20pm today.

"A tractor has collided with a tree causing it to shed its load of hay over the road. Fortunately no one was injured in the collision.

"A company called Alpha Finishing kindly assisted with the road's clearance, meaning the road was clear by 3.30pm and traffic is now returning to normal."

Elsewhere in East Staffordshire, there are still problems in and around Burton, due to the partial closure of Burton Bridge, as more vehicles try to get out of the town over St Peter's Bridge.
