A popular gym in Swadlincote is up for sale as its owner of 14 years hope to retire. Zeus Gym, in Ernest Hall Way, which has 500 members on its books, is being marketed at £375,000 and will be sold as a going concern.

The business is reluctantly being sold as the current owner, John Walker, wishes to retire and travel after 14 years at the helm.

The gym was started in 1972 following the growth of interest in body building and has been under the control of Mr Walker for the last 14 years.

The owners would like to sell it on as a gym

He said: "I will be leaving to retire. I turn 63 in October so I will be quite sad to leave it. When you put a business up for sale they don't tend to be sold overnight. It could take up to a year so that's why I am doing it now. I have had the business for the last 14 years and enjoyed every moment of it."

Equipment includes a squat rack, leg press, cross trainers as well as many others, across two floors. There are also several rooms to the lower ground floor which are used for storage but offer conversion possibilities such as a sauna or changing rooms.

Various improvements could also be taken to the business, such as extending the opening hours, creating a website or introducing a ladies section, giving potential buyers various opportunities for growth of the gym.

The gym is packed with equipment

The business is said to be ideal for either husband and wife team or lone management. According to Rightmove, 2017 accounts report an approximate turnover of £38,000 with a net profit of just under £24,000.

The site is 284 square metres and is currently valued at £375,000.
