Police want to speak to anybody who witnessed a fatal collision on the A38 in Derbyshire last night, Thursday August 3.

Officers from Derbyshire Constabulary were called to a stretch of the southbound carriageway between Ripley and the Coxbench turn-off after reports that there was a body in the road.

The body of a woman was found by officers, who are now investigating.

Police are looking to trace people who were in a car that was seen near to where the body was found. It is believed that one of the occupants got out of the car, before getting back in and driving off.

Anyone who was driving along the A38 last night and might have seen anything to do with this incident is urged to get in touch with the police.

The road was closed until 8am this morning and was closed again just before noon while investigations continued. The stretch has now been reopened, and traffic issues were expected to now ease.

Anyone with information is urged to call Sergeant Scott Riley from the Collision Investigations Unit on 101, quoting incident 983 of August 3.
