Every year the community in Winshill pulls together to improve the village’s gardens as in Bloom judges arrive. The team spirit comes from hoping to win an award in the gardening contest. The contest sees dozens of people in the village go to great lengths to garden in the area to make the village a nicer place to live.

Winshill in Bloom is a great campaign which sees the community come together in a way that also improves the environment and can only be a good thing.

So much so, housing association Trent and Dove Housing has said the work to spruce up the area has seen more people wanting to live there.

Winshill is bidding for glory in the urban category in the Heart of England in Bloom contest. The winners of this got through to the national Britain in Bloom contest that aims to encourage the transformation of cities, towns and villages.

More than 3,000 groups participate in the contest each year through Britain in Bloom and the It’s Your Neighbourhood project.

We'll certainly be keeping our fingers crossed for Winshill in September as the work that has gone into making the area look good has been exceptional.
