Hundreds of youngsters from in and around Uttoxeter have signed off in style at school leavers' events around the area.

Year 13 pupils at Thomas Alleyne's High School, in Uttoxeter, ventured down the road to Bradley House Club, in Bradley Street, to spend one last day as a cohort.

Many of them took to the stage to sing to their friends as they prepared to head off to university.

The school's Year 11 group held similar celebrations in the school grounds after enjoying a leavers' service at St Mary's Parish Church, in Church Street.

Students at the Uttoxeter pyramid's middle schools were also in the mood for celebration as they dressed up to the nines for their last day before high school.

And like their older counterparts, they too headed to St Mary's for a service, before enjoying a presentation event at the town hall, in High Street.

Trophies were awarded for academic achievement; excellent progress; endeavour and services to the school. Yearbooks were handed out to all student leavers.

Headteacher Lisa Wilbraham-Jones said: "It was an inspiring evening for students and parents.

"Musical performances by singers and musicians provided an uplifting atmosphere to the celebrations in church.

"The students have worked incredibly hard to raise funds for tonight’s party and it was wonderful to see everyone enjoying themselves afterwards in the ballroom."

Outside the area's state schools, Denstone College said goodbye to its sixth-formers - as well as head teacher David Derbyshire, who was calling time on his spell at the school after 20 years' service.

The Year Eight prom at Oldfields Hall Middle School, in Stone Road, had Casino Royale theme.

And James Bond himself appeared on the night in the form of a life-sized cardboard cut out of Daniel Craig.

The students held a lavish Charlie and the Chocolate Factory-themed ball at the College Road school.

A school spokesman said: "Oompa Lumpas mingled with guests over arrival drinks, the sports hall was transformed into a place befitting golden-ticket entry, and chocolate featured in all three courses of the splendid meal, provided by our own catering team.

"A surprise staff dance in honour of David Derbyshire also made for an unforgettable evening celebrating success, friendship, completion, the future and Denstone."
