Thousands of music fans descended on Weston Park, in Staffordshire, last weekend to get their fix of some of the industry's hottest stars as they took to the stage.

Despite the heavens opening and the ground turning to sludge, people young and old had the times of their lives at this year's Virgin V Festival, braving the wet weather to embrace the festival vibes.

There were wellies and rain macs galore at the event but nothing could beat the abundance of smiles and incredible music as the weekend got under way. I went prepared with a hot water bottle and I was a very happy camper knowing the incredible line up I had to look forward to.

Kicking off Saturday's fantastic line up were none other than Scouting for Girls, who, after 10 years of entertaining, showed they can still make people smile with their catchy lyrics in songs such as "She's so lovely, Elvis Ain't Dead" and "Michaela Strachan."

Both my husband and I have seen the band before - and I even had the pleasure of interviewing bass guitarist Greg Churchouse earlier this year - so we knew what great characters they were before they took to the stage. They were the perfect choice to open up the weekend’s festivities and really got people in the mood.

Other highlights for Saturday included performances from pop starlet Ellie Goulding who, despite admitting she is "not a talker" still captivated the crowds as soon as she opened her mouth with hits such as "Burn, Army" and "I need your love."

Jason Derulo got the crowd dancing

Cooking up a storm on the main stage was grime artist Stormzy who seems to be the man of the moment. Stormzy, whose real name is Michael Omari, lit up the stage with a very colourful, expletive filled performance, which introduced a lot of the audience to the grime genre. His songs explored London culture and he paid tribute to his faith with some softer numbers.

Clean Bandit tried to bring the sunshine out with their high tempo set of number ones and the crown went wild when they brought out special guest star and X Factor 2015 winner Louisa Johnson to perform their dance hit "tears".

There was not a person not on their feet when Jason Derulo took to the stage and opened his insane set with "trumpets". The hits kept coming as he performed fan favourites "Talk dirty" and "ridin’ solo" with a bevvie of energetic, scantily dressed dancers and the screams got louder when he took his shirt off mid-performance.

On the MTV stage the gorgeous and incredibly soulful Raye, made her return to the Virgin V Festival, and was delighted with the reception she got, after just one person turned up to see her perform during a previous appearance.

Since then, she has featured on Jonas Blue's 2016 single "By Your Side" and, more recently, Jax Jones' 2016 single "You Don't Know Me", which has seen her popularity and following soar. Thousands tuned in to hear her belt out her own songs "the line" and "sober" and they were not disappointed.

Legendary DJ Pete Tong took his Ibiza classics to the MTV stage to headline on Saturday evening alongside the Heritage Orchestra and conductor Jules Buckley, with talent and experience combined it was easy to see why he is one of the most successful DJ's in the world. As soon as he unleashed his mixes, the energy was pumping around the arena.

Across the fields at the Supervene Stage, Jay-Z was showcasing his swag and style with incredible performances on classic hits Jigga Man , 99 problems and dirt off your shoulder as well as new tracks that he has been working on. His legendary status as one of the world’s biggest rappers is in no way arguable as he made spitting bars seem effortless.

Sunday was the better day for myself as I was excited to see some of my favourite artists, but even musicians I am not familiar with put on an incredible show.

After a sausage sandwich and a cuppa to start the day I was delighted to see Busted take to the stage. Proving they are timeless, the trio had me swooning and reliving my teenage years with songs "What I go to school for, Year 3000" and "Crashed the wedding".

When the clouds turned grey and the rain started pouring, my day still wasn't dampened as my idol Ella Eyre took to the stage. Now I know I am biased when it comes to the goddess that is Ella Eyre but she blew me away and was so much more than I expected. As soon as she stepped on stage, she brought the energy, encouraging the crowd to sing along to the previously unreleased tracks she performed exclusively.

My legs were wobbling as I walked away when she finished and I was red in the face, but it was so worth it.

I thought it might be hard to top her performance but George Ezra, who I saw next did a cracking job. His deep, velvety voice brought out the sunshine as he sang favourites including "Budapest, Casio" and "Listen to the man.

"He also took the time to pay tribute to those who recently lost their lives in the Barcelona terror attacks with his hit "Barcelona" which was inspired by a month long trip to the city.

With more than 70,000 people attending the festival, organisers pulled out all the stops to cater to young and old and Madness were definitely popular with the older guests. Doing exactly what its namesake says on the tin, the group created utter madness as soon as they hit the stage, with people busting out moves, and some of the older folk seeming to literally bust some of their joints, there were smiles all around.

We were transported through time with Craig David's set too as the singer, songwriter, rapper and record producer showed his versatility with classics "7 days, fill me in" and "re-rewind."

Even some unexpected problems with the sound programmes provided him with the opportunity to showcase his talents and he freestyled and entertained the audience so much that jaws dropped, including mine.

He tried a few new things, unafraid to switch up his sound and I danced so much I was forced to put down my hot chocolate.

Essex-born Anne-Marie showed she is no newbie to the scene as she held her own with her stunning voice and humorous chat.

The main event proved that they definitely saved the best until last, when superstar Pink tore up the stage with her greatest hits. Fans were treated to an intimate performance of some acoustic numbers and the singer of "So what, who knew" and "Just like a pill" sent everyone wild when she performed an incredible aerial act above the crowds.

Her energy fuelled performance proved she is a woman of many talents and the dramatic firework display which concluded the night was a fitting way to end the fantastic weekend.

Throw in some Steve Aoki, Hannah Wants, and the Disciples, who all entertained the masses in the dance tent and comedy geniuses Joel Dommett, Seann Walsh and Lee Nelson provided the laughs in the glee comedy tent, there truly was something for everyone.

I may have had a bad back in the morning and some very mucky wellies but it was worth it for a weekend of eclectic music, typical English weather and lots of laughs. The atmosphere was buzzing from start to finish and I will be waiting avidly come March for the release of next year's tickets.
