Car giant Toyota has produced a limited edition model, built in Derbyshire to mark 25 years of car manufacturing in the UK.

The Japanese car-maker is celebrating the landmark anniversary by selling a special edition of the Auris Hybrid, built at the Burnaston factory in South Derbyshire.

Toyota first started making cars at the Derbyshire plant back in December 1992, with the Carina E being the first car to roll off the production line.

Since then, the factory has made more than four million vehicles for customers across the world.

Earlier this year, the firm announced it would invest £240 million in the Derbyshire factory to upgrade production processes. The company employs more than 3,000 people across the UK, including 2,430 in Burnaston. It also has a plant at Deeside, in North Wales, employing 601.

Burnaston was the first Toyota factory in Europe to start producing hybrid vehicles, which are powered by a combination of petrol and electricity. It is now the home of the Auris Hybrid and to mark the factory’s 25 anniversary, it has produced the limited edition car, known as the Auris Hybrid GB25.

According to Toyota, the car “represents the best of Toyota’s UK manufacturing, a stylist and spacious compact hatchback offering the smooth, quiet and efficient performance of the latest-generation petrol-electric hybrid powertrain.”

The car features a bi-tone pain finish, contrasting black features with Tokyo Red, Pearl White or Aspen Grey bodywork. The outside of the car also features a “25 years building in Britain” badge, incorporating the Union flag.

The 1.8 litre car also features 17-inch alloy wheels, rear privacy glass, automatic air conditioning, push button start and leather steering. The limited edition car went on the sale at the start of the month with a price tag of £24,045.
