Uttoxeter Racecourse has won a prestige award for its successful contribution to tourism in Staffordshire.

The Wood Lane course took home the Retail, Leisure, Culture and Tourism Business of the Year gong at the recent Staffordshire Chambers Business Awards 2018.

In a glittering ceremony at the Staffordshire County Showground, the racecourse received the accolade as "a gleaming example of all that is positive about the county," awards chiefs said.

Racecourse executive director David MacDonald said: "Winning this accolade is recognition of the very highest standards on which the venue prides itself.

"Our desire is to make Uttoxeter Racecourse a beacon for what is best about Staffordshire.

"We want Uttoxeter Racecourse to be an absolute exemplar of a visitor experience - and that is what we work tirelessly every day to provide.

"Uttoxeter Racecourse is not an island set apart from all around it. It is one of the finest adverts we, as a county, have for ourselves.

"It is also the only business tourism venue in Staffordshire that offers both the thrill of a day at the races and an opportunity to do effective business."

The course attracts thousands upon thousands of visitors into Uttoxeter every year.

It is home to 25 race fixtures annually, including the Betfred Midlands Grand National, Music Live Race Night, Ladies' Night, Great British Family Funday, Summer Cup and Marston’s Beer Festival.

It also hosts a series of non-racing-related events each year, including the popular Acoustic Festival of Great Britain.

David said: "What better way to showcase Staffordshire than in a place that, at its core, delivers the most memorable of day outs, amidst the finest of facilities, in the beauty of the Staffordshire countryside?"

"We never stop in seeking to make Uttoxeter Racecourse the absolute best visitor experience it can be.

"What we do here is a team effort. We all work together, and we are proud to be a key member of the Staffordshire business and tourism community.

"We have been part of the fabric of Staffordshire for more than 100 years, and, as we adapt to rapidly changing times, long may that continue."
