Burton Albion defender Ben Turner returns to the Brewers side - and captains it - for tonight's Carabao Cup second-round tie at Cardiff City after serving a five-match suspension.

New signing Sean Scannell also starts after the Brewers secured his signature on-loan for the season from Premier League Huddersfield Town.

Turner has been unavailable until tonight's match after he was found guilty of an 'aggravated breach' of FA regulations by using language that "included a reference to ethnic origin and/or race and/or nationality" towards Brentford's Nico Yennaris last December.

He starts at the heart of the Albion defence alongside Tom Naylor in a 4-4-2, with Tom Flanagan and Damien McCrory the two full-backs.

Connor Ripley starts in goal for his second Burton appearance, the first coming in the first-round victory at Oldham Athletic a fortnight ago.

Nigel Clough also goes with a four-man midfield, with Ben Fox and Scannell on either wing, Matt Palmer and Jackson Irvine the central midfielders.

Joe Sbarra starts in behind Lucas Akins - a combination that helped the Brewers to cup success against Oldham in the first round.

Harry Campbell, Luke Murphy, Kyle McFadzean, Lloyd Dyer, Marvin Sordell and Shaun Barker start on the bench at the Cardiff City Stadium.
