Birmingham City boss Harry Redknapp blasted his Blues squad after Friday night's 2-1 loss to Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium.

Redknapp's City side led at the half-time interval despite the Brewers having the better of the chances - and a poor second-half from his side allowed Marvin Sordell to produce a moment of quality to bring Albion back on level terms, with Lloyd Dyer going on to win it for the Brewers.

Remarkably, Albion have a 100% league record against the Blues after Friday night's match - coupled with the pair of 2-0 successes of last term - with Lloyd Dyer netting in each match so far.

It's no secret that the former Tottenham Hotspur boss wants more fresh faces in his squad before the end of the transfer window - and on that viewing a frustrated Redknapp would surely like them in sooner rather than later.

But it is his comments after the dust had settled on Albion's first win of the new campaign that really told the story of how the match had swung from Birmingham's favour to the Brewers'.

Redknapp blasted his players for "disappearing", "ruining" former manager Gianfranco Zola - who was sacked after the Brewers beat his Blues side last April - and admitted that wholesale changes need to be made to his squad if they are to challenge next term.

"We’re in a great position to win the game, no problems, we’re in control - they come out second half, change the system, go 4-4-2 and we lost it," said a furious Redknapp post-match.

"Suddenly, four or five of them disappeared and I didn’t see them in the second half. We didn’t win any battles and it’s not good enough.

"I have to keep coming on and saying nice things. People say 'don’t say anything bad'.

"Listen, what am I supposed to say? People are not stupid. People see the second half, it’s not good enough.

"You don’t go 25 games and win two of the 25 with virtually the same team.

"Nobody can say 'ok lads, I’ll sprinkle stardust on you, you’re a new lot of boys this year, forget that you ruined Zola last year, this year we’re going to be different'.

"What I need is to change a lot of them because that’s not good enough.

"I’m not standing here trying to win points with the Birmingham fans, this is a fantastic football club with unbelievable support.

"They came here and sung their heads off and they deserve to have a good team.

"I will give them a good team and I still say, by the end of the window I’ll have a group of players that I’ll work with and we’ll still be pushing to be up there in that top six next year."
