Burton Albion's players now know which numbers they will be wearing next season after the club announced the squad numbers for the 2017/18 season today.

The likes of new signings Matty Lund, Stephen Warnock, Jake Buxton, Hope Akpan and Luke Murphy will take to the Pirelli Stadium pitch Tuesday night bearing their squad numbers for the season complete with the new kit that was released last week.

The injured Liam Boyce is highly doubtful for tomorrow night's final pre-season friendly against Leicester City after he was stretchered off in Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Shrewsbury Town.

Warnock has been allocated the number three vacated by John Brayford following his return to Sheffield United after his loan spell at Albion last term, while fellow defender Jake Buxton picks up the number 23 shirt.

Midfielders Luke Murphy and Matty Lund have been allocated numbers seven and eight respectively, while Hope Akpan and Liam Boyce will wear 21 and 27 for the new season.

Albion forward Marvin Sordell has moved from number nine to 17, with - perhaps tellingly - the number nine and two shirts still vacant.

Goalkeeper Stephen Bywater has been awarded the number one shirt following his impressive performances towards the end of last term, and takes that jersey from the released Jon McLaughlin.

Elsewhere, it's as you were for the Brewers - with last season's star man Jackson Irvine holding onto his number 36 shirt, Lloyd Dyer retaining the number 11 and captain John Mousinho bearing number four once again.

Albion will showcase their new kit - complete with this season's squad numbers - against the Foxes before Saturday's Championship curtain-raiser against Cardiff City at the Pirelli.
