Derby County consolidated their Championship play-off place with a 2-0 win over fellow promotion chasers Aston Villa.

The Rams moved four points clear of Villa thanks to goals from former Villan Andreas Weimann and Johnny Russell.

That now means Derby sit fourth in the second-tier, just six points from second-placed Cardiff City while Villa and Sheffield United are level on 37 points in fifth and sixth place respectively.

Down at the bottom, Birmingham City slipped to the bottom of the Championship after their 2-1 defeat to QPR at St Andrews, while Sunderland lifted themselves out of the bottom three thanks to a first home win in nearly a year, a 1-0 defeat of Fulham.

Millwall eased their relegation fears with a 2-1 defeat of Middlesbrough, while Brentford played out a 0-0 draw with Barnsley at Griffin Park and Hull City lost 1-0 to Cardiff in the Saturday evening kick-off.
