Nottingham Forest edged a pulsating game at Griffin Park, running out 4-3 winners with new signing Andreas Bouchalakis scoring twice on his league debut for the Reds.

Daryl Murphy and Kieran Dowell also chipped in for Mark Warburton's side, who fell behind early door before Bouchalakis' equaliser - ensuring Forest won their first league game on the road since November 2016.

Warburton is already preparing for Tuesday night's visit to Barnsley, despite Saturday's win at his former club.

"All focus is immediately on Tuesday night. There is no point going to Barnsley and losing now, we have to go there to a tough venue and perform again," he told the Nottingham Post .

Preston North End held Leeds United to a goalless draw despite having Ben Pearson sent off on the hour mark, and Whites boss Thomas Christiansen labelled the stalemate "frustrating."

Pearson was given his marching orders after picking up a second yellow card, Leeds failed to take advantage and Preston should have bagged a late winner when former Manchester United man Josh Harrop hit the crossbar.

"When you play for that amount of time with one player more and do not win, it is an opportunity lost. You have an opportunity and you believe you can get the goal," he told the Yorkshire Post .

"It was a difficult game against a good team. Preston showed they are a good team. Preston won the challenges in the first half and that is frustrating."

Burton Albion's local rivals Derby County got off to the worst possible start at Pride Park, failing to follow up last week's 1-1 draw with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light with a win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Wolves, with £16 million Championship record-signing Ruben Neves in midfield, ran out 2-0 winners over the Rams with Barry Douglas and Ivan Cavaleiro on the scoresheet.

Cardiff City breezed past Aston Villa 3-0, thanks to a double from Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and a solitary Junior Hoilett strike, while Milwall drew 1-1 fellow relegation candidates Bolton Wanderers.

Middlesbrough opened their account at the Riverside Stadium with a 1-0 defeat of Sheffield United, with Rudy Gestede hitting the only goal.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Ipswich Town beat Barnsley 2-1 at Oakwell, while Reading and Fulham drew by the same scoreline.

That was also the score at Hillsbrough, as visitors Queens Park Rangers took a point from Sheffield Wednesday.

Finally, Birmingham City - Albion's opponents on Friday night at the Pirelli Stadium - beat visitors Bristol City 2-1 at St Andrews.
