England began their World Cup preparations at St George's Park today (May 21).

Sixteen of Gareth Southgate's 23-man Three Lions squad for next month's finals in Russia have joined up at the National Football Centre in Tatenhill, near Burton, to kick-start their World Cup training camp.

Training is expected to kick off tomorrow (Tuesday) at St George's Park, where Burton Albion train during the League season.

Chelsea's Gary Cahill and Manchester United quartet Ashley Young, Jesse Lingard, Phil Jones and Marcus Rashford have been given additional rest time following Saturday's FA Cup final, while Liverpool duo Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold will join up later, with the Reds in the Champions League final this weekend.

As well as the bulk of England's squad for the finals meeting at St George's Park, they are also joined by James Tarkowski and Jake Livemore - two of the five players placed on standby - while Manchester City goalkeeper Angus Gunn and Watford midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah are also working with the players.

England will begin building up to the World Cup at the state-of-the-art facility in Staffordshire before heading out to Russia.

Philip Atkins, leader of Staffordshire County Council, said: "Staffordshire is hugely proud to be home to the FA Centre, which is not only home to the country’s 28 national teams but is also a fantastic education facility and national attraction.

"We are proud to be welcoming members of this World Cup squad to the county today and I know people across Staffordshire will be cheering on the whole team at their temporary home here in Staffordshire and away in the competition in Russia next month.”

The Three Lions begin their World Cup campaign against Tunisia on June 18, with games against Panama (June 24) and Belgium (June 28) to follow in Group G.
