Burton Albion ensured the wait for their first Championship points of the season came to an end in style as goals from Marvin Sordell and Lloyd Dyer saw them to a 2-1 victory over Birmingham City last night.

After a good start, Albion were pegged back by the Blues and found themselves a goal down when ex-Brewer Jacques Maghoma blasted the visitors in front from close range.

The Brewers could have wilted after that, with Harry Redknapp's Birmingham building momentum.

But having held on until half-time, Burton burst out of the blocks after the break and were soon level, courtesy of a delightful two-touch goal from Sordell - the first taking him round his man and the second sending a 20-yard effort flying into the bottom corner.

It was left to Dyer to decide the contest, the ex-Blues loanee registering his third goal in as many games for Burton against Birmingham when tidily slipping a finish under David Stockdale from Lucas Akins' backheel.

The result made for another memorable evening under the Pirelli Stadium floodlights.
