Burton Albion's ninth friendly of pre-season ended in defeat - and there was at least one other negative outcome for the Brewers against Shrewsbury Town.

While Shaun Whalley's 85th-minute penalty decided the game, seven days before Albion kick-off their Championship campaign at home to Cardiff City, it was a first-half injury to Liam Boyce that most worried the clutch of travelling Burton supporters.

Boyce was carried off on a stretcher following an innocuous challenge, while fellow striker Marvin Sordell was sent off earlier on as the Brewers battled well with 10 men for the majority of the game.
