Middlesbrough have been drawn into Burton Albion's Checkatrade Trophy group for the 2018-19 season.

Championship side Boro's under-21s side will compete with the Brewers, Walsall and Port Vale in group E of the competition's northern section.

The competition rules state that invited under-21 teams - which can include only two players aged over 21 and with more than 40 first-team appearances - will play each of their games away from home, meaning Burton will host Middlesbrough at some stage during the groups.

It has not yet been confirmed when they will play each fixture, or whether their meetings with the Saddlers and Vale will be away or at the Pirelli Stadium.

The allocated weeks for games are:

Match one: week commencing September 3

Match two: week commencing October 8

Match three: week commencing November 12

The top two teams from each group qualify for the last 32.
