Shrewsbury Town manager John Askey expects Burton Albion to be "one of the strongest teams" in League One next season.

Albion have been drawn away at third-tier rivals Town in the first round of the Carabao Cup for 2018-19 - Burton's sixth successive away draw in cup competitions.

Askey, on the other hand, is pleased with a home tie for his side.

And the new Shrews boss believes the clash can provide a marker for his team of where they stand in the League as they tackle a Brewers team back at that level after two seasons in the Championship.

"I think a draw at home is the most you can ask for," said Askey.

"Obviously it will be tough - they've just come down, so it will be a tough game, but it's one to look forward to.

"It will also give us an idea of where we are at.

"Burton coming down will be one of the strongest teams.

"It gives you a barometer as to where we are, although it will be very early days.

"They've come a long, long way from where they were - it's been a fantastic story really. It just shows what can be done.

"You want to win whatever games you're playing in.

"I think if you have a good cup run, it can help in the League as well - it breeds confidence."
