Burton Albion take on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light this afternoon (3pm) with relegation on the cards for either side should results go against them.

Albion will be buoyed by last weekend's stunning 3-1 defeat of A38 rivals Derby County, and they could relegate the Black Cats and maintain their miraculous survival hopes with another victory here.

But the opposite could be true, too, with Sunderland capable of sending Albion down into League One if they beat Nigel Clough's side and Bolton Wanderers and Birmingham City beat Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sheffield United respectively.

If Bolton and Birmingham win, then the Brewers' stay in the Championship will officially be over even if they draw today.

Nigel Clough reaction - full story...

I don’t think you’ll get a more drama-filled last 10 minutes than that in any game in any league. They hit the bar, nearly getting the second goal, us getting an equaliser, then the winner, a goal disallowed - there was all sorts going on. But that’s what happens at this stage of the season. Fortunately, we have come out on top in today’s encounter - but it could easily have gone the other way. We had similar at Huddersfield last season, when we got a very late winner.

Coleman discusses THAT decision...

Burton play Bolton so it’s going to balance itself out for us unfortunately, but I think because it was such a mess, the last 60 seconds of the game with the craziness of the decisions from the referee and his linesman. It’s not why we got relegated, don’t get me wrong because we’ve been here for 44 games. Just look at the 95 minutes, that was an absolute mess caused by themselves, so everyone was a little bit confused, but obviously I know who’s playing who and what’s going on. So it’s compounded really, the disappointment of losing so late on. to Burton who are a place above us. This is the fourth time in five games we’ve been leading and we don’t hang onto that. We don’t hang onto those points and if you don’t do that then you end up with where we are. If you don’t have what you need, and as a group we haven’t, then you come up short.

Coleman discussing Sunderland's relegation...

I’m very affected by the feeling of relegation. It’s my first one as a manager, so that’s obviously very painful. But whether we were planning for this division or the ones below, a lot of things need to happen here. That was whether we stayed up or not. There’s things here that need to change.

More reaction from Clough

Not many drama-filled last 10 minutes than that i don’t think. At any stage of the season, there seemed to be everything in the last 10 minutes. Obviously when they score the equaliser in the 96th minute we were concerned then. The players are adamant that it was handball. I think that’s why you saw the reaction from them, three or four of them, led by the captain. They went to go and talk to the referee and all we’d like him to do is going and ask the assistant what he’s seen. And they were adamant that it was a blatant handball. I haven’t seen it back yet so I’m looking forward to seeing it.

Clough speaks...

We just keep it going another week. Bolton at home next week - our aim for the last few weeks has been to take it to the next few weeks. I didn’t think he’d (Bent) quite get that reaction. He was telling me before the game he did quite well.
