Tom Naylor has paid tribute to the Burton Albion fans and staff after joining Portsmouth.

Naylor has moved to Albion's League One rivals on a three-year deal following four seasons at the Pirelli Stadium, in which he was a crucial player in the back-to-back promotions and two Championship campaigns.

He made 124 League appearances in that time across the midfield and defence, and scored 12 goals.

In a statement on Twitter, the 26-year-old said that he "loved every minute of it" with the Brewers and wishes to see them back in the Championship, "where [the club] belongs".

But he adds that "it feels like the right time to take up this opportunity" at Portsmouth, who will themselves be battling for promotion into the second tier.

"It's been an absolute pleasure playing for such a great club," said Naylor.

"I've learned a lot and made so many amazing memories that I will take forward in my career.

"Back-to-back promotions, staying in the Championship in our first season, and quality time on and off the pitch with the lads.

"I've loved every minute of it!

"I would like to thank the manager, the coaches, the kit man and all of the staff behind the scenes for the last three-and-a-half years.

"The fans - you've been fantastic to me since I came to this club and made me feel welcome from day one, so thank you!

"I just feel that at this point in my career there is another challenge out there for me, and it feels like the right time to take up this opportunity.

"I hope the club bounces back to the Championship next season where it belongs, and like I said, it's been a pleasure to be a Brewer!

"So I wish you all the very best for next season and the future. Nails."

Naylor will officially become a Pompey player on July 1, following the expiry of his current deal with the Brewers.
