Burton Albion were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by a ruthless Manchester United side on Wednesday evening, with goals from Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and a Marcus Rashford double consigning the Brewers to a 4-1 defeat at Old Trafford.

Rashford opened the scoring after just five minutes and doubled his tally for the evening with a strike from distance just 12 minutes later.

The Brewers headed into the break 3-0 down when Lingard's deflected effort, cannoning off Ben Turner and wrong-footing Albion 'keeper Connor Ripley, nestled into the bottom-left corner.

That was the tie effectively sewn up, but the tenacious Anthony Martial finally got his goal on the hour mark, coolly slotting home past Ripley in front of the Stretford End.

Nigel Clough's side didn't give up, though, and managed to become the first lower-league side to score a goal at Old Trafford since November 2011 when Lloyd Dyer's late strike sent the travelling Brewers home with something to cheer.
