Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare brought Yohan Benalouane off as punishment for the Foxes defender's horror tackle on Stephen Warnock in last night's 2-1 defeat to the Brewers.

Goals from Hope Akpan and Lucas Akins rounded off a busy pre-season schedule for Albion with a win over the 2015/16 Premier League champions - with a late Harry Maguire consolation not enough for Leicester.

But Shakespeare addressed the tackle that would not look out of place on a Sunday league pitch when, having endured a torrid time at the hands of Akins, the Tunisian lunged into a tackle and brought the former Liverpool man down.

Unfortunately for Benalouane, it was right in front of the dugouts and the former Atalanta defender was lucky not to receive a red card - with referee Simon Hooper instead opting for the sensible option of requesting him to leave the field of play in exchange for a substitute.

And Shakespeare was more than happy to oblige, dragging him off the pitch with Darnell Johnson taking his place - and Warnock was straight back up like the experienced professional he is.

Although this was not without the former Liverpool man letting Benalouane know exactly how he felt about being the subject of that sort of challenge in the last pre-season friendly of the season.

"It was a reckless, and would have been a red card,” Shakespeare told the Leicester Mercury.

"My decision was to take him off, sit him down, show him that because he has got to learn from that. If he doesn’t, he won't be involved.

"I was bringing him off for that tackle. Normally he would have got a red card. He has got that in his game. If he doesn’t get rid of it, he won't play."
