The match officials for Burton Albion's Championship season-opener against Cardiff City have been announced, with Geoff Eltringham taking charge on Saturday.

Eltringham, along with assistant referees Nick Greenhalgh and James Mainwaring and fourth official Michael Salisbury will officiate Cardiff's visit to the Pirelli.

He officiated of 40 games last term, dishing out 112 yellow cards and five reds - including two red cards against Cardiff in the two games he refereed the Bluebirds.

The Durham-based referee took charge of two Brewers games last term, with an even split of one win and one loss.

His first was a 1-0 home defeat to eventually-promoted Brighton and Hove Albion back in September - with the second a 2-1 January success at Queens Park Rangers.

Incidentally, Eltringham's first match as a senior referee was a 3-2 Burton succes at the Pirelli agaisnt Woking - back in 2008 when Albion were gracing the Blue Square Premier League as it was known then.
