Burton Albion are chasing up a second loan deal for Fulham striker Cauley Woodrow as they look to strengthen their squad.

A report from Sky Sports on Monday suggested the two clubs were in talks over another move to the Pirelli Stadium for the England under-21 international, who scored five goals in 14 appearances for the Brewers last term.

And following Tuesday's 2-0 defeat at Middlesbrough , Nigel Clough confirmed that they are looking to get a deal done for Woodrow, adding that they hoped to have him in in time for the Boro clash.

The Brewers are intent on bolstering their ranks before the transfer window shuts on August 31, with attacking options a primary focus for Clough.

According to Clough, that has seen them lodge a host of enquiries in pursuit of new signings.

But with clubs still yet to complete their own squads and games coming thick and fast, those moves can take time.

"We've got some money to spend, that's not the problem," he said after the loss at the Riverside.

"It's actually convincing the players and the clubs to let them out halfway through the window.

"We've got probably eight or 10 enquiries in at the moment for loans and permanents, so it's just trying to persuade somebody to get one of those over the line.

"We've been linked with Cauley Woodrow, we've made an enquiry about getting him back.

"He was in the (Fulham) squad tonight, so that put that back. We were hoping to get him for tonight.

"We'll make another call in the morning to see if we can get it done."

Burton have also fielded at least one request for their own player, with interest shown in midfielder Matt Palmer.

The 22-year-old started the game at Boro and has been the subject of calls from other clubs.

But Clough says Palmer and other Albion players will certainly not be leaving until their own squad is strengthened - and perhaps not even then.

"We are trying as soon as we can," he added about bringing players in.

"We've had enquiries for our players.

"We've had calls about Matty Palmer (on Tuesday), and we said, 'he's playing tonight!'

"So there are other clubs in our situation as well who'd like Matty Palmer and our players.

"But none of them are going anywhere until we get some in, and even then maybe not."
