Former Rangers winger David Templeton has become Burton Albion's second signing of the summer - and the day.

Templeton has signed a two-year deal at the Pirelli Stadium and follows midfielder Scott Fraser - who signed earlier this afternoon (Thursday) - in moving down from Scotland to join the Brewers on a free transfer.

The 29-year-old scored nine goals in 31 appearances for Scottish Premiership side Hamilton Academical last season.

It was his first full campaign since the 2014-15 season with Rangers, during which the ex-Hearts man sustained a serious knee injury that ultimately ruled him out of action for 22 months.

But Templeton proved his fitness and quality with Hamilton over the past year, and he will add pace and guile out wide for Albion in League One.

"He’s had a rough time with injuries the last couple of years but hopefully he's now fully fit and looking to get some games under his belt," said Nigel Clough.

"We need creativity and a spark at times and he’ll provide those for us.

"He's still got a good few years left in him and we are hoping that he will provide that little bit of something different for us. He can play wide or can play inside as well.

"He's a player we have admired, and we have watched a lot of games in Scotland over the last 5-10 years and he has always impressed us.

"Hopefully the track record of bringing players down from north of the border helps and he wants to prove a point with us.

"He knows Scott Fraser and they will help each other settle in but it was very important that he wanted to come and play in England."
