Burton Albion are reportedly interested in Ross County defender Jason Naismith.

According to Scottish newspaper the Daily Record, the Brewers are vying with Aberdeen, Plymouth and two unnamed Championship sides for the 23-year-old.

Aberdeen have made a formal enquiry, say the Record, for the right-back while Burton and Derek Adams' Plymouth have made contact with County about the defender.

Naismith is contracted with the Staggies until 2020 having joined them from St Mirren last summer.

He had a productive season with relegated County, notching two goals and creating five in the Scottish Premiership as they finished in 11th place.

The club's co-manager, Stuart Kettlewell, says he wants the Scottish under-21 international to remain at Victoria Park.

"We've made it clear to Jason and everyone else how much we want to keep him," he said.

Meanwhile, a source close to the club told the Record that any potential suitors will need to pay what County demand.

"Some people seem to have forgotten Jason is very much a County player, under contract for two seasons," the source said.

"If Aberdeen or anyone else want him it will have to involve an acceptable fee as compensation.

"It seems the clubs most likely and willing to do that reside in England."

Should Naismith leave for the Pirelli Stadium, he would become the third player to do so from Dingwall in as many years and would follow in the footsteps of Jackson Irvine and Liam Boyce - both record-breaking deals for Albion at the time.

Paisley-born Naismith would likely come in as a replacement for the transfer-listed Tom Flanagan after he was made available by Nigel Clough earlier this month following the conclusion of Burton's campaign.
