Burton Albion midfielder Jackson Irvine is expected to seal his club-record switch to Hull City today, Sportmail understands.

The former Ross County man, signed from the Staggies last summer for a club-record fee, is to join the rebuilding effort at Hull - who are targeting a return to the Premier League following their relegation last term.

Hull completed the signing of Nouhoa Dicko from Wolves last night for around £3.5 million - with the forward's signing coming as a surprise as many expected Irvine's announcement to come first.

There had been rumours of interest from various clubs all summer, but only the Tigers have been willing to make good on that interest and stump up the cash required to prise Irvine away from the Pirelli Stadium - which we believe to be worth around £2 million including add-ons.

Irvine looks set to move to the KCOM Stadium - where he showed the best of both worlds to Hull fans in a frantic first-half after curling in a peach of an effort to bring Albion level but saw red shortly after for a second yellow card as the Brewers fell to a 4-1 defeat earlier this month.

Jackson Irvine in World Cup qualifying action for Australia

The 24-year-old is currently with the Australia national team as they prepare to face Japan in a crucial World Cup Qualifier on Thursday morning, with Irvine having missed the Brewers' 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday after holding talks with the Tigers following news on Friday that Hull's offer had become serious.

Once the story breaks, we will have full reaction to Irvine's departure on burtonmail.co.uk/sport and in tomorrow's edition of Sportmail.
