Leeds United have secured the signing of former Newcastle United midfielder Vurnon Anita on a three-year deal.

The midfield man - who was released by the Magpies following their promotion to the Premier League last term - has become the Whites' sixth signing of the summer as Leeds look to build another promotion challenge.

Felix Wieldwald, Mateusz Klich, Hadi Sacko, Pontus Jansson and Madger Gomes have all joined Thomas Christiansen's side ahead of the new season.

Twenty-eight-year-old Anita made 27 Championship appearances last season, helping Newcastle roar back to clinch the second-tier title.

Sunderland are now odds-on favourites to sign former England goalkeeper John Ruddy, according to the Chronicle.

The Black Cats sold last season's star keeper Jordan Pickford to Everton for £30 million last month, leaving Vito Mannone and Mika as the only first-team stoppers on Wearside.

But Mannone has since been linked with a return to Italy, and Mika is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Stadium of Light side since signing last summer.

Ruddy was released from his contract with Norwich this summer, and has previously been linked with a move to Aston Villa.

He won promotion to the Premier League twice with the Canaries.

Garry Monk has addressed the transfer speculation surrounding Middlesbrough's interest in Derby County defender Cyrus Christie.

Boro have reportedly had a bid for the Rams right-back rejected, while Queens Park Rangers, Reading and Brighton have also been linked with the 24-year-old in the past few weeks.

"We've been linked with about 50 players, like every club," Monk told TalkSPORT.

"There's always stuff out there. A lot of it is probably dropped in by agents or the club."

The 28-year-old was made available for transfer last summer after being left out of Wednesday's pre-season training camp before the start of the 2016/17 campaign.

"Lewis is a very good player and can play in a lot of teams in the Championship but he has difficulties playing our game," said Carvalhal at the time.

"These kind of things happen in football.
