Excitement is mounting as students in Burton get ready for their first red carpet film festival in the town.

The event, which takes place on Saturday, July 22, will showcase the work youngsters have completed in their first term at a new, part-time performing arts school, StageScreen.

Students have been working towards their first end of term project, where films and music videos they have made will be showcased at the film festival for family and friends on Saturday at Fleet Street Studios, at Burton and South Derbyshire College.

Heather Gallagher, principal of StageScreen, said: “Our first term is now complete and my tutors and students are now looking forward to seeing their completed work on the big screen. Students are getting excited to wear their smartest clothes and walk down a red carpet for the very first time.”

Students are taught in three age groups: six to nine-year-olds; 10 to 13-year-olds and 14 to 18-year-olds. Each age group rotates between rooms at The Hub to spend one hour each week on acting, film and musical theatre. StageScreen’s three tutors all have professional industry experience in their specialism.

Ms Gallagher said: “Lessons are tailored to each age group so students can learn new techniques and skills while also having fun and acquiring confidence and social skills.”

Under Ms Gallagher’s leadership, Tilley Bancroft, of Red Door Studios, leads the film and TV class; actor and director Sam Thorogood teaches drama and comedy acting and singer, and actor Megan-Louise Daniels leads musical theatre classes.

StageScreen launched in Burton in April, for six to 18-year-olds who want to learn about drama and comedy acting, musical theatre and film production and performance. It is based at the Burton Albion Community Hub in Grange Street, every Saturday morning in term time from 10am to 1pm. StageScreen Starlets is also launching in September for four to six year-olds as a 45 minute class.
