Ever thought it would be nice to enjoy a glass of wine while visiting the zoo? Well now you can.

Twycross Zoo is bringing back its in-demand Apes and Grapes date night exclusively for adults from 6pm on Saturday, July 14.

Visitors are invited to enjoy a sit-down meal within the conservation charity's intimate surroundings and raise a glass to wildlife during this special celebration of all things ape conservation.

Industry-renowned guest speakers including Dr Johannes Refisch, programme manager at GRASP (Great Apes Survival Partnership), Rachel Hogan, director of Ape Action Africa, Simon Husson, director of Borneo Nature Foundation, and Michelle Desilets, executive director of The Orangutan Land Trust, will take part in a think tank session, as well as be on hand to talk to those who attend throughout the evening.

Visitors will also be given the chance to spend time with the zoo's keepers and talk to them about their work, as well as the animals they look after.

Bosses said that this exclusive ticket-only event is a unique chance to discover the ins and outs of what the zoo's apes get up to behind closed doors, while tucking in to a meal, cheeses and wine at several points around the zoo.

Guests will also get the chance to discover Twycross Zoo's troop of chimps in their brand new £3.5 million habitat - Chimpanzee Eden.

Home to more than 500 animals of 125 different species from all around the world, Twycross Zoo is the only place in the UK with all four great apes – chimpanzees, orangutans, gorillas and bonobos.

Matyas Liptovszky, head of life sciences, said: "We're very much looking forward to our second Apes and Grapes evening and we're hoping this year's event will be even bigger and better than before.

"The evening is an invaluable opportunity for people to find out more about the incredible conservation work that takes place here at the zoo, as well as learn more about some of the wonderful animals that live here.

"Our team work tirelessly every day to help preserve this fantastic species, both here at the zoo and all around the world.

"This event is the perfect way to showcase this and let people know how they can help us."

All proceeds raised from the event will go towards the zoo's on-going conservation, education, captive breeding and research work.

Tickets to Apes and Grapes, which are available on a first come, first served basis, cost £24 for members and £30 for non-members, and are available book online here.
